  • Teen Vogue.com and altamira: a new partnership for fashion month

Teen Vogue.com and altamira: a new partnership for fashion month

As I write this, my hands are actually a bit sweaty. Maybe it's the old fight or flight response mechanism inside of me, knowing that some of the country's top editors will be watching my work. Frankly, I think it's the excitement of knowing that I'll be the first photographer to be hired by Teen Vogue.com for New York, London, and Paris Fashion Week to capture models street style and "it" girls street style--close up shots might be included too. An endeavor to be taken seriously, no doubt.
So for future reference, I'm going to ask that you click on the Teen Vogue.com banner links inside my posts and check out their new street style section for fashion week. The photos will be exclusive for use by Teen Vogue, so you won't be able to see them here. So go check out what's probably the first street style shot EVER, of FORD Supermodel of the World 2009 Winner, 14 year old modeling sensation Tayane Leao at Teen Vogue.com!.

Teen Vogue, two street pics, August 2009

Vogue Girl Korea interview, solo page, May 2009

It's not often that I take the time to review my progress with altamira, so I thought I'd make a quick post, which is more diary like, documenting my progress. Sometimes I feel like a tug boat, chugging along...endlessly. And other times I feel like an eagle that is about to soar.

And then add in two seasons of shooting parties for style.com at Paris Fashion Week and I guess I'm not doing so bad after all.

    Normal posts soon to resume!

On Friday I had to stop in at Teen Vogue to deliver some work that I recently did while in Europe. After spending some time with Andrew Bevan reviewing some photos, we took a walk through Teen Vogue's offices and I thought you might find it interesting to see what things look like inside the 9th floor at 4 Times Square. The walk involved a quick stop over inside Jane Keltner de Valle's office, a surprise visit to Mary Kate Steinmiller, and naturally, a walk through the closet. Back to regularly scheduled Models Off Duty shots tomorrow.

  • Happy Holidays from altamira!

    Happy Holidays from altamira!

    Teen Vogue, Feb. 2009

Hope everyone is enjoying a warm and memorable holiday season with family, friends, and loved one's. I promise regular updates again after the holiday season passes. For the moment, above is a scanned page from the Feb. 2009 issue of Teen Vogue, which is a collection of images I shot during fashion month. This is certainly an amazing way to end 2008. Did you know you could subscribe to 2 years of Teen Vogue for just $10? That's not even the cost of a drink in Manhattan. It also reminds me just how far I have yet to go: agents in all major global capital cities of the world, a professional photo book the size of a small desk, and eventually a 39 mega pixel Hasselblad camera. One step towards that dream has already been made as my new camera is finally in (no, not a Hasselblad, but definitely enough to provide you with word class quality), so you can look forward to new and improved images. See everyone back soon!

    Elana feeds Ricki a pretzel

    ankle boots -- BCBG
    blazer -- Theory
    skirt -- Alexander Wang

Elana is a Fashion News intern at Teen Vogue and we found each other outside of the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue and Central Park South. The first time I spotted Elana was at New York Fashion Week last September in a gorgeous Rag and Bone dress. As you can see, we had a bit of fun as we bought a pretzel off a street vendor to feed Ricki the horse, stood inside Central Park and shot Columbus Circle in the background, and then got a bit creative at the end with the tree branches.

Agyness Deyn from Women Management NY and my solo page in the current Teen Vogue

Agyness Deyn as discovered on Lafayette Street. "Agyness!" She turned around, "Hey, I shot you last spring over there (pointing to Elizabeth and Prince). Did you ever get a chance to see the the shot? It turned out amazing!" "No, I didn't...." she replied. "You were standing like this" and then I proceeded to put on my best chin to shoulder Agyness pose which got a laugh. "So can I get a shot?" "Yeah!" The second shot is a scan of the recent June/July issue of Teen Vogue which has my second solo page of pictures in it.

Models Street Style: Catherine McNeil with NEXT Models NY

With the opening of the Metropolitan Museum's exhibition The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion starting today, the May issue of Vogue U.S.'s pages on Models Street Style, an April model-centric Harper's Bazaar, and a new fashion month Models Off Duty section at Teen Vogue.com, I felt it was appropriate to celebrate the possible re-emergence of the model as a fashion icon by sharing an entire week's worth of models street style.

What makes these photos special is that they will all be from the streets of New York, sans any fashion month flashbacks. Imagine jumping in front of a model on the street, pausing very briefly while you study the face behind the sunglasses and opening with, "Hey, you're Catherine McNeil!"

    boots -- Bess
dress -- Hervé Léger Bandage Dress

Teen Vogue's Andrew Bevan and Mary Kate Steinmiller

Nothing like catching two editors having a laugh with each other. In the second photo, I had just finished asking Andrew to spin Mary Kate around on his back, that's why she's pointing her finger at me as if to say, "Not going to happen Mr. Craig."

The last shot is Andrew getting out of a cab headed to a show at the Tents.
