"Abbey Road meets Mercer Street" blogger style

A few months Jessica Schroeder from Weardrobe.com and I chatted over coffee about Jessica's dream to hold a blogger convention in New York before fashion week started. It didn't come as a suprise to find that Jessica transformed this vision into reality by bringing to New York 21 bloggers from around the country within the short time span of just a couple of months of work.

All I can say is that it was an amazing experience meeting all these girls and I'm half envious of the good time they had: a hotel room overlooking Gramercy Park, free meals in Soho where the food was shaped like tiny sculptures, DIY projects, new shoes, new bags...yet another way for serious fashion bloggers to make their presence heard in the world. Glamour.com, Seventeen Magazine, and a few other notable news outlets were there to report on the event that left this group of 21 girls turning more than a few heads on the streets of New York.

Audra Callo represented by New York Model Management as discovered on Mercer Street today. On her blog I learned that her name Audra means "storm" in Lithuanian which is relevant since she came from a Lithuanian family.

  • Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference: Bryan Boy speaks up about trends

Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference: Bryan Boy speaks up about trends

The sitting room, quite the chill place to do your internet work on the go.

The ambiance in the main meeting area was amazing.

The voice of the blogger is evidently becoming more influential as 100's of bloggers stuffed into The Hudson Hotel for the Evolving Influence Conference hosted by the Independent Fashion Bloggers. New York Magazine's Amy Odell and Bryan Boy to name a couple spoke on topics from how to be the first in the market with new information to just plain being yourself. All done within a visually pleasing pyramid of computers and an artistically pleasing sitting room, the seminar was a nice stop off from the field of shooting street style.

You can hear Bryan Boy above wax eloquent on the need for innovation and "newness" in the coming season.

As you know, I've been covering all four fashion weeks or what is more easily called Fashion MONTH for 3 years now. This season, L'Oreal Paris approached me about what could become the next huge niche in the fashion industry online: a user generated hair style site. Think about it. First was street. Then was personal style. Now there are a few beauty blogs. And now there is yourstyleyourstudio.com, the first user generated personal hair style site. You can spend endless hours uploading your own looks or surfing some of the coolest hair styles from around the world: Mod Squad, The Modern Bouffant, and Braids Envy to name a few.

Above are just a few examples of inspirational hair from London Fashion Week: opening with Nadia aka the blogger FrouFrouu and closing with Peony Lim's amazing hair.

Take heed my dear readers and go forth and upload your own inspirations now while history is in the making at YourStyleYourStudio.com

  • Unveiling Kenneth Cole's 2d consecutive blogger event: Rebel Without A Cause (but not without a collection)

Unveiling Kenneth Cole's 2d consecutive blogger event: Rebel Without A Cause (but not without a collection)

A birds eye view of the showroom. Note the oversized bean bags in the back that were provided for people to lounge in while watching James Dean's Rebel Without A Cause

    Strong leather accessories were everywhere

    a bag

    jewelry

animal print platform loafers for her

belted shearling ankle boots for him

    belted collar on winter coat

belted collar again, only this time not so visible

    patent black leather belt

double strapped partial belt collar detail

food and beverages were served in abundance.

miniature POP champagne bottles were served by waiters

bartenders stayed busy by making Rebel Rouser cocktails, with Medea Vodka, white cranberry juice, topped with Sprite and white grape garnish

Medea Vodka bottles had a built in digital ticker tape that scrolled Kenneth Cole. Goody bags were given, each inscribed with a special Kenneth Cole message

Then Kenneth Cole showed up and people flocked around him.

Kenneth gave a brief talk on his collection and the event

Kenneth managed the usual obligatory photos with elegant aplomb. Here with Karen of Where Did You Get That (L) and Christina from Trop Rouge

And here with Sonia from Runway Hippie and Karl Edwin Guerre from Swagger360

Ingo Wilts, Kenneth Cole's Creative Director was also on hand to mingle and answer questions

Power bloggers were also present: including Style Caster and Connie Wang from Refinery29. WWD.com and Elle.com were also there to name a few.

After Kenneth talked, people mingled. Check out the "blogs love traffic" helmut, for use on a moped.

A giant Twitter screen updated itself in real time, dramatizing the speed and virability (sounds like a word!) at which information flows on the internet. Glamour.com's Tracey Lomrantz tweeting.

according to Runway Hippie, Kenneth Cole doesn't like french fries

after everyone mingled, people picked up popcorn (Lime Salt, Truffled Parmesan, or Cinnamon Butter) and prepared themselves for the movie.

    witty sayings on the pillows

Rebel Without A Cause then played

waiters served refreshments during the movie

    James Dean

    THE END

Last night Kenneth Cole held his second consecutive Blogger event celebrating the roots behind Kenneth's FW2011 line as found in James Dean's Rebel Without a Cause. Bloggers enjoyed exclusive previews of Kenneth Cole's FW11 line at the Kenneth Cole studios on West 50th street.

The pictures pretty much tell the story. Clothes were admired, champagne was served, Kenneth Cole mingled with the bloggers, popcorn and refreshments were served, and people watched James Dean's Rebel Without A Cause. Thanks to the Kenneth Cole team for everything!
