It was 4:38 p.m. in the afternoon.
Alexis had just come from swimming in the pool.
She found me on the front porch where I was there watering the plants.
She sat on the steps.
She said, "Mom," a deep sigh. "When are we going to have lunch?"
OH NO!
I looked at her.
I waited a moment.
I said ...
"Hon ..." I aimed the water hose at a fern and doused it with a stream of water. "It's nearly 5:00 - it's almost time for dinner."
She threw herself back on the tiled porch.
She let out a squeaky squeal.
She said ...
"Ooooooooh - I missed lunch," she was about to cry. "And ..." she put her hands over he eyes, "I didn't even have breakfast," she was very distraught.
I looked at her.
I waited a moment.
I said ...
"And you are still alive?" *smile*
*tiny giggle from the hungry daughter*
On the upside ... I hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch either and ... I was ALSO STILL ALIVE!
